Nyall Engfield is
involved in the preparation and prosecution of patents
and industrial designs, as well as patent
litigation. He also works in the review
and preparation of license agreements on a wide range
of technologies, and has a special interest in privacy law, helping his clients to comply with privacy legislation with a proven record in privacy litigation as well. Nyall works and serves his clients in English, French and German.
Nyall completed his B.A.Sc. in electrical engineering at the University of Waterloo. He worked as a software engineer with the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and in New York with Verizon before pursuing an LL.B. from the University of Calgary, where he won the Felesky Flynn Prize for excellence in taxation law and appeared on the Dean's List. He completed his articles at the Federal Court under the Hon. Edmond Blanchard, and has been with Andrews Robichaud since that time in the area of patent law and litigation.
With an understanding of the interplay between business, technology and law, Nyall focuses on adding value through leveraging intellectual property assets. He has published in the area of copyright law and peer-to-peer file sharing, accounting for intellectual property valuation, and privacy.
In his spare time Nyall enjoys traveling, cycling, diving, kayaking and skiing; in the summer he can be found on Ottawa's rivers or bikepaths, and in the winter on Mt. Tremblant most weekends. He is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and the AIPLA. Nyall also manages the Canadian Cycling Blog: Greener and Leaner.
